ADCSimLab
ADCSimLab – Real-Time ADC & DSP Simulator
ADCSimLab is a real-time simulation app designed to help engineers and students understand how analog signals behave inside an ADC and digital signal processing chain.
The app enables users to generate signals, apply noise and front-end effects, convert them through a configurable ADC, process them with digital filters, and observe the results using live scopes and numerical performance metrics.
ADCSimLab focuses on clarity and interactivity, making ADC concepts easier to explore and understand.
Signal Generation & Simulation
ADCSimLab offers multiple signal sources that can be configured dynamically:
• DC signal with adjustable level and rise time
• Sine wave with amplitude, frequency, and offset control
• Two-Tone signal with independent frequencies and amplitudes
• White noise source with RMS voltage control
Simulation parameters such as sampling frequency, duration, and rise time can be modified at any time. This allows detailed observation of time-domain behavior and transient responses.
ADC Configuration
The ADC section is designed to reflect real-world behavior and limitations:
• Selectable ADC resolution from 4-bit to 14-bit
• Adjustable reference voltage range
• Optional ADC enable and bypass mode
• Automatic calculation of LSB size
Quantization effects and clipping behavior are visualized directly on the scope.
Noise & Front-End Modeling
ADCSimLab includes analog noise and front-end modeling features:
• Adjustable analog noise RMS level
• Optional dithering
• Front-end gain and offset control
These tools help users study how noise and analog conditioning influence quantization and signal quality.
Digital Filtering & DSP
The app provides a wide range of digital filters and DSP tools:
• Low-pass and high-pass filters
• Band-pass and band-stop filters
• Median filter and moving average
• Exponential smoothing (EMA)
• Derivative and integral operators
• Savitzky–Golay smoothing
Filter parameters such as cutoff frequency can be adjusted in real time. Filter changes are applied instantly without restarting the simulation.
Live Plots & Performance Metrics
Multiple synchronized plots are available:
• Input signal and quantized signal
• Quantization error
• Filtered output signal
ADCSimLab also calculates key performance metrics in real time:
• Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR)
• Effective Number of Bits (ENOB)
• RMS error
• Clipping percentage
• LSB voltage size
These values update continuously as parameters change.
Live ADC View
ADCSimLab includes a dedicated Live ADC View designed for focused real-time monitoring.
This screen allows continuous observation of ADC input and filtered output signals with reduced visual clutter. Live scopes display current voltage values along with minimum and maximum levels.
The Live ADC View provides:
• Start and reset controls
• Adjustable simulation speed
• Real-time and simulated time indicators
• Window mode to view full signal history or a focused time range
Separating live monitoring from configuration screens improves clarity and analysis comfort.
Designed for Learning & Exploration
ADCSimLab is a simulation and learning tool. It does not connect to hardware and does not perform real measurements.
The app is suitable for:
• Engineering students
• Embedded and electronics engineers
• DSP learners and educators
All simulations run locally with no external hardware required.
Key Highlights
• Real-time ADC and DSP simulation
• Multiple configurable signal sources
• 4–14 bit ADC resolution
• Analog noise and front-end modeling
• Advanced digital filtering
• Live scopes and numerical metrics
• Separate Live ADC View for observation
